Chattogram University set for historic student elections after decades

The long-awaited Chattogram University Central Students’ Union (CUCSU) and hall union elections are set for tomorrow, marking the revival of student elections after decades. Voting will run from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm across six centres, using a four-page ballot for CUCSU and a single-page ballot for hall and hostel unions. Voters will have 10 minutes to complete their ballots, with a total of 415 candidates for CUCSU posts and 493 candidates for hall and hostel positions.

Polling centres will include faculty buildings, with a total of around 700 booths. Separate arrangements are made for students with disabilities. The voting process will be closely monitored with CCTV and security measures, and ballots will be scanned twice for accuracy during the counting process.

The university has restricted entry for outsiders to ensure a fair election, with only election officials, voters, and journalists allowed access. All entrants must carry valid identification, and private vehicles will be banned from the campus during the election period.
