Chief Adviser orders probe into deadly Mirpur factory fire

Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus has instructed an investigation into the deadly fire at a garment factory and chemical warehouse in Mirpur’s Shialbari, which has claimed 16 lives and injured several others. Prof Yunus, currently in Italy for the World Food Forum, expressed shock at the incident and pledged support to the affected families. The fire, which is believed to have started at the chemical warehouse, spread to the Anwar Fashion Garments Factory and Shah Alam Chemical Warehouse. Firefighters recovered 16 bodies, and eight others were injured, with three receiving treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. Social Welfare Adviser Sharmeen Soneya Murshid stressed relocating chemical warehouses from populated areas, and Fire Service DG Brigadier General Muhammad Jahed Kamal urged a social movement against illegal chemical warehouses. A five-member Hazmat team is working to identify the fire’s source.
