Govt forms committee to investigate Mirpur factory fire that killed 16
The government has formed a seven-member committee to investigate the deadly fire at a garment factory and chemical warehouse in Mirpur’s Rupnagar area on Tuesday, which killed 16 people. Laskar Tajul Islam, Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment, will lead the committee. The committee’s task is to determine the fire’s cause, identify those responsible, assess the damage, and submit recommendations within seven working days. It will also prepare a list of the deceased and injured, investigate any negligence in inspections, and suggest measures to prevent future accidents. Each family of the deceased will receive Tk200,000, and injured workers will get Tk50,000 for medical treatment.
