Child’s death in Sarawak linked to Influenza A

The Ministry of Health is looking into the death of a four-year-old in Samarahan, Sarawak, believed to be linked to Influenza A.

Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad confirmed the child tested positive for Influenza A. However, he said the main issue was brain inflammation, which caused seizures. He added that encephalitis can be caused by other viruses, so more tests are needed to confirm the cause.

Dr Dzulkefly offered his condolences and said the situation would be fully investigated. He assured the public that most flu cases are mild and under control, despite the 116 outbreaks and 97 clusters detected.
