China Myanmar film fest opens in Yangon

Myanmar and China launched a joint cinema celebration in Yangon’s Kyauktada Township, honoring 75 years of diplomatic ties between the nations. Chinese Ambassador Ma Jia and Union Information Minister U Maung Maung Ohn presided over opening festivities at Nay Pyi Taw Cinema, where authorities screened eight Chinese productions with local subtitles for audiences at no charge. The minister emphasized that visual storytelling transcends language barriers and deepens mutual understanding between populations.

U Maung Maung Ohn separately inspected renovation progress at Wazira Cinema on Bogyoke Aung San Road, directing staff to complete international standard upgrades by March 2026 with enhanced seating configurations and audiovisual equipment. The official later observed the recording of election awareness announcements at Myanma Radio and Television featuring prominent performers from the Myanmar Music Association. He commended artists for voluntarily participating in public education campaigns encouraging eligible voters to exercise franchise rights during the upcoming multiparty democratic elections.
