Myitkyina hosts multi ethnic cultural event
Kachin State authorities hosted a multicultural celebration at Myitkyina University featuring traditional performances from 22 ethnic dance ensembles representing indigenous communities, including six Kachin subgroups, five Shan divisions, and coexisting Bamar, Kayin, Rakhine, Chin populations alongside Chinese, Gurkha and Sikh cultural delegations. Union Minister for Border Affairs and Ethnic Affairs Lieutenant General Yar Pyae distributed one million kyat honorariums to each participating troupe following their presentations of regional folk dances and narrative performances.
The Zaiwa tribal squad defeated the Lacheik team 3-2 to capture the Ethnic Affairs Minister’s Cup football championship at Myitkyina People’s Sports Ground. Lieutenant General Yar Pyae awarded the victors three million kyat, individual medals and the tournament trophy, while runners-up received two million kyat. The Lhaovo squad claimed third-place honors with one million kyat in prize money.
