Chris Pratt opens up about working with LAPD for ‘Mercy’ film

Chris Pratt described the emotional challenges he faced while preparing for his role as a detective in the thriller Mercy, after spending time with Los Angeles Police Department homicide investigators. The Guardians of the Galaxy performer said listening to real cases from active detectives proved more demanding than the physical stunt sequences he completed with law enforcement officers.

Pratt portrays a Los Angeles detective racing against time to prove his innocence after authorities accuse him of killing his wife. The actor worked directly with members of the LAPD homicide division to develop his character and participated in tactical training that included driving patrol vehicles and staging confrontations.

The performer emphasized that homicide detectives work continuously on active cases across major cities without receiving public recognition for handling traumatic situations. Pratt called these investigators heroes for managing the psychological toll of their daily responsibilities and the disturbing crime scenes they encounter regularly.
