Court adjourns Brikama case over age dispute of accused minors

Magistrate K.B. Sambou of Brikama Magistrates’ Court adjourned the case of two boys, Modou Lamin Joof and Sulayman Joof, who both claimed to be 17 years old. The case was adjourned to allow the court to consider how to proceed. Police records show that Modou Lamin Joof is 20 years old, though his mother insists he is 17. Magistrate Sambou noted that if the accused are indeed minors, the court needs legal advice before proceeding.

The two are charged with attempting to commit a felony for allegedly trying to steal at the compound of Alagie Baba Sonko in Brikama on 13th October 2025. The case is set for further review on 19th November 2025. Both accused were granted bail at D50,000 each, with one Gambian surety required for each, along with a valid ID or passport and an affidavit of means.
