Health Ministry hosts mental health symposium for World Mental Health Day

The Ministry of Health, together with civil society organizations, held a one-day symposium to raise awareness about mental health on World Mental Health Day. The event focused on educating people, recognizing mental health issues, and reducing stigma through open discussions.

Ebrima K. Mendy, representing the Ministry of Interior, spoke about the invisible effects of crises, emphasizing that psychological trauma can last long after physical damage from events like conflict or natural disasters. Dr. Jainaba Jallow from TanKa Tanka stressed that mental health is as important as physical health, affecting how we think, feel, and act.

Momodou T. Nyassi, Director of Health Services, called for collective responsibility, urging society to treat mental well-being with the same urgency as physical health. The symposium aimed to promote early treatment, reduce stress, and create a supportive environment for those facing mental health challenges. Through these efforts, the Ministry of Health hopes to inspire communities to support mental health more proactively.
