Court allows Governor Otti to serve defamation suit via Facebook, WhatsApp

A Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has allowed Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, to serve his ₦100bn defamation lawsuit on former Commissioner of Information, Eze Chikamnayo, through Facebook and WhatsApp. The court granted this order on October 16, 2025, after Otti’s lawyer requested the method, as Chikamnayo used these platforms to post defamatory messages. Otti claims the posts between July and September 2025 harmed his reputation, and he is seeking ₦100bn in damages. The court adjourned the case to January 19, 2026, and ordered Chikamnayo to respond within 30 days, or risk a default judgment.
