CPC probes Sofia parking price hike for economic justification

The Consumer Protection Commission will investigate the planned parking fee increases in Sofia to determine their economic justification. Following a municipal decision involving Mayor Vasil Terziev, parking in blue zones is set to rise to two euros, or four leva, per hour, while green zone parking will increase to one euro, or two leva. The commission stated that the Euro Adoption Act requires any price increase during the dual display period to be based on objective economic factors and implemented transparently.

To establish the reasons for the hike, the commission will request all relevant documents and evidence from the Center for Urban Mobility and from Mayor Vasil Terziev. It warned that violations of the act could result in significant fines for companies with high turnover.

A broader review of similar pricing actions in other cities has also been initiated by the commission to ensure compliance with consumer protection laws.
