Death toll climbs to 64 in Mexico floods, 65 missing
A brutal storm has turned Mexico into a disaster zone, with 64 dead and 65 still missing. The rain, relentless from October 6 to 9, drowned Veracruz, Hidalgo, Puebla, Querétaro, and San Luis Potosí, breaking rivers and streams like toys. Veracruz and Puebla got the worst of it, with over 280 millimeters of rain, turning cities into wastelands. Veracruz counts 29 dead and 18 missing, Hidalgo 21 dead and 43 missing, and Puebla 13 dead with four still unaccounted for.
Tropical Storm Raymond and Hurricane Priscilla joined forces to wreck homes, roads, and crops. More than 15,000 people had to flee. The death toll is climbing, and recovery is still nowhere in sight.
