Delhi-NCR air quality hits ‘very poor’ category
Air pollution levels in Delhi-NCR have reached the “very poor” category, raising health concerns as Diwali approaches. Data from Thursday shows that areas in Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Noida have seen a sharp rise in pollution, with many locations exceeding an AQI of 300. In Ghaziabad, Loni recorded the highest AQI at 339, while Noida’s Sector 125 reached 358. Delhi areas like Anand Vihar and Wazirpur also showed high pollution levels.
In response, authorities have activated the first phase of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP), halting construction and banning diesel generators. Experts point to high ozone and PM10 levels, worsened by weather conditions. Health experts warn of serious effects on vulnerable groups and advise wearing masks and using air purifiers.
