Denmark backs Bangladesh carbon market

Denmark’s ambassador to Bangladesh said the South Asian nation produces less than 0.4 percent of worldwide greenhouse gas emissions yet endures extreme climate dangers. Christian Brix Møller told attendees that carbon markets could help Bangladesh convert environmental threats into economic opportunities through proper partnerships and regulations. He spoke on Thursday at a climate discussion held by the Danish Embassy at Bay Edge Gallery in Gulshan.

More than 80 people gathered to examine how Bangladesh could build a credible carbon-trading system. Carbon market specialist Shaymal Barman explained that such mechanisms attract investment for sustainable development while reducing emissions. Mirza Shawkat Ali from the Department of Environment said Bangladesh could become a leader in climate solutions among developing nations through its planned Carbon Market Framework.

The ambassador pledged Danish support for Bangladesh’s environmental transition. He stressed that effective carbon markets need robust institutions, transparent policies, and cooperation between government agencies, businesses, and global partners. Officials said the talks would guide future policy decisions aimed at turning climate risks into financial gains.
