Dhaka court grants bail to Tajbir Hasan, Haltrip scam mastermind

A Dhaka court granted bail to Tajbir Hasan, the alleged mastermind behind the Haltrip online travel agency scam, on Tuesday, October 14. The court ruled that since other cases against him were already in process, there was no need to remand or keep him in custody for this case.

Tajbir’s lawyer, Syeda Fahmida Hossain, sought bail, while the state opposed the petition. The court granted bail on a bond of Tk 1,000. Tajbir was accused of being deeply involved in PK Halder’s financial scams, and investigators had seized Turkish passports and high-end phones from him, which would be sent for forensic analysis.

Haltrip, an online travel agency, collapsed in January 2020, leaving many customers and travel agencies with significant financial losses. Tajbir was detained on October 4 at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport while allegedly attempting to leave for Turkey. He is under investigation for money laundering, with reports suggesting he owns 10 percent of PK Halder’s embezzled funds.
