Dimitrov warns debt and taxes hit record highs

MP Martin Dimitrov of the PP-DB coalition declared that the proposed national budget in its current form is dangerous for Bulgaria and should not be adopted. He warned that the financial plan would impose a historic tax burden and record state debt, with the government intending to take on 39 billion leva in new liabilities over two years.

Dimitrov called for strong public pressure, urging citizens and businesses to join a peaceful protest on Tuesday. He stated the protest would oppose record increases in taxes and social security contributions, as well as the SUPTO software system, which he said would impose approximately one thousand leva in additional costs on small businesses. He also cited an annual social security increase of around 600 leva for workers and employers.

He criticized the government’s allocation of enormous borrowed funds, describing the spending as irresponsible. Dimitrov confirmed his parliamentary group’s unified position, demanding a total revision of the budget and the abandonment of the planned tax hikes and the SUPTO initiative.
