DJ Big N laments Afrobeats decline, blames artists and labels

Nigerian DJ, DJ Big N, expressed concern about the decline in Afrobeats’ global performance, stating that it is at its lowest in 20 years. In an interview, he blamed both artists and music executives for this downturn, noting that the genre’s quality and originality have dropped.

He explained that artists and labels tried to appeal to international audiences by diluting Afrobeats, but this resulted in a loss of quality and authenticity. DJ Big N emphasized that for Afrobeats to succeed globally, it must stay true to its roots.

He also criticized rising artist fees, saying many Nigerian artists have become too expensive, making it unsustainable for the industry. DJ Big N urged artists to rethink their approach to help the genre thrive.
