DPP rejects MCP members, calls them political opportunists

The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) has announced that it will not accept former members of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) or individuals known for frequently changing political parties. DPP spokesperson Shadric Namalomba called these individuals “political opportunists” and stated that the party’s policy bars them from joining.

Namalomba accused those who served in the MCP government of mismanaging the country and causing economic and social hardships. He added that DPP leader Arthur Peter Mutharika is focused on having dedicated, selfless people in government.

MCP Deputy Publicity Secretary Ken Msonda dismissed the DPP’s stance, suggesting that people should be free to join any party. Political analyst Wonderful Mkhutche supported DPP’s position but warned that such policies need strong internal structures to be effective.
