Drugged lorry driver leads police on 150km chase in Perak
A 52-year-old cement truck driver turned a routine stop into a wild 150km chase across the highway, only to end up in a bush near Universiti Teknologi Petronas (UTP) yesterday. It all started when police spotted the lorry refusing to pull over for a routine inspection on the North-South Expressway. What followed was a high-speed, heart-stopping ride through Gopeng, Kampar, and Tanjung Tualang, with the suspect slamming into police cars and driving the wrong way.
As the chase raged on, officers fired a shot to pop the truck’s tyre, but the driver kept pushing forward. Finally, the police cornered him near UTP and hauled him in. A drug test revealed he was high on opiates, and with 13 prior criminal records, including 11 drug-related offenses, this was one bad driver who wasn’t going to stop.
