Four-year-old dies from encephalitis after flu in Samarahan

A heartbreaking tragedy struck in Samarahan when a 4-year-old boy passed away at Sarawak General Hospital on October 8 after suffering from brain inflammation. The child had developed a high fever on October 5 and was treated at a clinic the next day. But on the way home, he suffered seizures and was rushed to the hospital, where he was put in critical care but could not be saved.

Initial tests showed the boy tested positive for Influenza A, though the exact cause of death is still under investigation. The Ministry of Health (MoH) is urging the public to stay alert for flu symptoms, especially in children, and to seek medical help early to prevent complications. They’re also advising good hygiene, proper coughing etiquette, and mask-wearing to stop the spread of infections.
