Dyche leads Forest past Porto 2-0
Sean Dyche secured his first victory as Nottingham Forest manager after his team defeated Porto 2-0 in Europa League action on Thursday. The club had dismissed Ange Postecoglou just 40 days into his tenure on Saturday and struggled through 10 matches without a win since the Premier League opener. Morgan Gibbs-White converted a penalty after Jan Bednarek was ruled to have handled the ball in the 19th minute. Video review officials overturned a diving call against Nicola Savona and awarded a second penalty that Igor Jesus converted 13 minutes before the final whistle.
Aston Villa fell 2-1 to Go Ahead Eagles in the Netherlands despite taking an early lead through Evann Guessand. Mathis Suray equalized before halftime with a deflected attempt, and Mats Deijl chipped the goalkeeper to complete the comeback. Emi Buendia failed to convert a late penalty that would have salvaged a draw for the visitors.
Rangers suffered a 3-0 defeat to Brann in Norway under new manager Danny Rohl. The loss marked the third straight Europa League setback and left the Scottish club at the bottom of the 36-team standings.
