Mandhana Rawal tons send India to semis

India advanced to the Women’s World Cup semifinals after defeating New Zealand by 53 runs on Thursday at DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Openers Smriti Mandhana and Pratika Rawal scored centuries and combined for 212 runs as India reached 340 for three wickets in 49 overs. Mandhana finished with 109 runs while Rawal contributed 122 before Jemimah Rodrigues added 76 not out to complete the dominant batting performance.

New Zealand managed 271 for eight wickets while chasing a rain-adjusted target of 325 in 44 overs. The loss eliminated the White Ferns from semifinal contention with one match remaining in the tournament. Brooke Halliday scored 81 runs and Isabella Gaze remained unbeaten on 65 for New Zealand.

India joined Australia, England and South Africa in the final four of the eight-nation competition. The hosts will face Bangladesh in their final group match on Sunday at the same venue. The championship match takes place on Nov. 2 in Navi Mumbai.
