EU Energy Commissioner visits Bulgaria for gas corridor talks

European Commissioner for Energy Dan Jorgensen will travel to Bulgaria and Romania on Monday and Tuesday to discuss the Vertical Gas Corridor project. The initiative aims to strengthen energy security and expand gas supply options across Central and Southeastern Europe.

Jorgensen will attend a ministerial gathering in Romania on Monday with the High-Level Group on Energy Connectivity. Officials plan to address the phase-out of Russian fossil fuel imports and strategies to reduce energy costs for consumers.

On Tuesday, the commissioner will meet with Bulgarian ministers involved in the corridor’s development. Seven nations back the initiative, with the European Commission’s support driving two projects to move gas northward from Greece through multiple countries. The system could eventually extend supply routes to Ukraine.
