Expatriates, election officials to vote by postal ballot in 13th JS elections
Bangladesh will permit overseas residents, detained individuals, and government employees stationed away from their home areas to participate in the February parliamentary voting through a technology-enabled mail ballot system, election officials said on Monday.
The Election Commission announced that workers assigned to polling operations also meet eligibility requirements for remote participation. Public relations director Md Ruhul Amin Mallik signed the formal statement directing potential participants to consult the commission website and video platform for procedural guidance. Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed explained that expatriates can enroll via the Postal Vote BD application beginning Nov. 16, when registration deadlines will be disclosed.
Ahmed described the remote voting mechanism as an inaugural option for citizens residing abroad. Participants who complete the enrollment process through the mobile application will receive ballots at their registered addresses. The commission urged stakeholders to monitor its digital information channels for updates about absentee procedures before the 13th parliamentary election.
