Experts calm fears on Lukoil sanctions
Bulgaria faces minimal immediate threats from U.S. sanctions against Russian oil companies Rosneft and Lukoil, according to domestic analysts. Ruslan Stefanov from the Center for the Study of Democracy told bTV that the nation ranks among Europe’s most prepared for energy disruptions. The sanctions bar Lukoil from dollar transactions that dominate 84 percent of global commerce, forcing financial institutions to sever ties and avoid potential American enforcement actions. Stefanov said the situation could advance market competition, reduce Bulgaria’s dependence on Russian energy sources, and protect consumers from monopoly pricing structures.
