MEP vows to keep fuel prices steady
Bulgarian officials assured citizens that fuel supplies remain secure following American sanctions against Russian energy firms Rosneft and Lukoil. Member of the European Parliament Tsvetelina Penkova said finance and economy ministries have prepared contingency plans, while alternative sources already serve domestic markets. The Socialist Party representative emphasized that national priorities focus on price stability and employment protection at facilities such as the Neftochim refinery.
European Union members remain divided on proposed Russian gas import restrictions, with only 12 nations supporting complete adoption of the measure. Penkova highlighted that Brussels allocated 10 billion euros toward nuclear energy infrastructure and workforce training in its seven-year budget framework. Bulgaria faces personnel shortages in its atomic power sector, similar to challenges confronting France and other European countries that depend on nuclear generation.
