Filmmaker Morshedul Islam resigns as chairman of Somoy TV

Acclaimed director Morshedul Islam has stepped down from his position as chairman of Somoy Television, citing internal complications at the private news channel. He delivered his resignation to the board of directors at Somoy Media Ltd and distributed copies via email to all board members.

Islam assumed the chairmanship following the collapse of the Awami League government. He is related to former lawmaker Advocate Qamrul Islam through a sibling relationship. His directorial work has garnered recognition at festivals, including the International Film Festival Mannheim-Heidelberg in Germany and the International Film Festival of India, along with multiple National Film Awards in Bangladesh. His portfolio includes Dipu Number 2, Dukhai, Anil Bagchir Ekdin and the short film Agami.
