Fines for average speeding to start in 10 days, says Mitov
The Minister of Interior, Daniel Mitov, announced that fines for average speeding will be implemented within ten days. He reported that the necessary system integration between the Ministry of Interior and the Road Infrastructure Agency is in its final testing phase.
Minister Mitov provided traffic accident statistics, noting a reduction of 495 serious accidents and 722 fewer injured persons compared to the same period last year, despite an overall increase in traffic volume. He acknowledged, however, an increase of eight more fatalities.
He expressed confidence that the new penalty system would significantly improve road discipline. Mitov stated that requiring drivers to pay fines would provide real motivation for compliance with speed restrictions.
