Fire at Chittagong factory sparks safety concerns after 17-hour battle

A seven-story building in the Chittagong Export Processing Zone caught fire but lacked a fire safety certificate, the Fire Service said. The building’s design and management did not follow safety rules, which delayed firefighting efforts.

After 17 hours of work, the fire was controlled with help from the Fire Service, Army, Navy, and Police. The fire burned for a long time because the building did not meet safety codes, with narrow spaces making it hard for firefighters to reach all sides.

No one was hurt, and an effective evacuation plan helped ensure workers were safely moved out. Firefighters worked with advanced cranes to stop the fire from spreading, avoiding a larger disaster.
