Fire at illegal Mirpur godown under control

The fire at a chemical godown in Mirpur’s Rupnagar residential area has been brought under control, but authorities have stated that search operations inside the damaged godown may take 36 to 72 hours. Lt Col Mohammad Tajul Islam, Director of Fire Service and Civil Defence, shared this update during a press briefing on Wednesday.

He explained that the operation resumed at 11:40 am on Wednesday, and the fire was fully controlled by 2:20 pm. Due to the severe damage to the building, the search operation is progressing cautiously for safety reasons. The godown, Alam Enterprise, suffered extensive damage, and inspections by Rajuk authorities will determine the full extent.

Initial assumptions suggest no one is trapped, as the main gate was locked. Lt Col Tajul Islam also confirmed that the chemical warehouse was illegal and had been flagged for enforcement action, with three notices issued prior to the fire.
