Galamsey miners threaten Asuoho Konkoma school, clinic

Illegal miners threaten a school and health center in Asuoho Konkoma within the Bosomtwe District after excavating near both facilities. Residents reported on Monday that operators dug pits in buffer zones reserved for the buildings, and they warned that authorities must respond before the community loses access to essential services. Multiple complaints to the Bosomtwe District Assembly produced no action despite mounting environmental risks.

The community asked the Ashanti Regional Security Council to halt operations before miners destroy public infrastructure. Excavation crews work meters from the health center, while others operate on school grounds. Officials have not responded to safety concerns about the encroachment on protected land surrounding the facilities.
