GERB plans law to regulate Christmas allowances
Bulgaria’s governing GERB party plans to establish permanent legislative provisions for holiday assistance targeting economically vulnerable populations, according to Deputy Chairman Denitsa Sacheva. The proposal would create a new category of social aid, ensuring consistent support for low-income citizens while removing political controversy from annual allowance discussions.
Sacheva confirmed that her party has formally requested Social Minister Borislav Gutsanov to develop statutory mechanisms for implementation during the coming year. Current holiday supplements remain under negotiation as officials await National Social Security Institute financial assessments before determining whether political arrangements can deliver immediate assistance to beneficiaries.
