Google’s Tensor G5 chip throttles, fails to impress

Google’s Tensor G5 chip is falling flat, with users and tech fans alike unimpressed by its performance. The chip heats up quickly and throttles, ruining experiences like gaming and even PlayStation 2 emulation, which doesn’t even push the GPU. The issue seems to be Google’s haphazard design approach, using off-the-shelf ARM cores and relying too much on outside partners like Imagination for the GPU.

While Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 leaves the Tensor G5 in the dust with its custom CPU and optimized performance, Google’s piecemeal design feels like an off-the-rack suit with a few tweaks, but no real flair. Until Google gets serious about full control over its chips, it will struggle to keep up.
