Government to convert PTPTN loans to scholarships for poor students

Starting next year, PTPTN loans for students from poor families will magically transform into scholarships! The government’s big move to help struggling students was revealed under Budget 2026, with the announcement that public university students from low-income backgrounds will be in for a major financial break. PTPTN boss Datuk Seri Norliza Rahim says this new plan will take the financial weight off students and let them hit the books without worrying about money.

In an even juicier twist, PM Anwar Ibrahim promised free PTPTN loans for 5,800 students next year, backed by a cool RM120 million. But wait, there’s more—students with top grades won’t have to pay back loans either!

But not everyone’s off the hook. For those dodging repayments, the government is laying down the law—no overseas travel for you!
