Govt to cancel Cox’s Bazar airport status

Bangladesh will rescind the international status granted to Cox’s Bazar Airport less than two weeks after approval. Officials plan to issue a formal notice on Sunday to reverse the Oct. 12 designation, according to Group Captain Md Nur-e-Alam of the airport committee. The facility lacks completed infrastructure for foreign carriers, with an 11,000-square-foot terminal remaining under construction.

The Civil Aviation Authority reports the airport has not established the required operational systems for international service. No foreign airlines have committed to launching routes from the coastal location. The Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism issued the original gazette notification earlier this month.
