Govt to double ad rates for media with fair pay for journalists
Bangladesh will increase advertisement rates for media companies that pay journalists the government-mandated minimum salary, Information Adviser Mahfuj Alam announced on Sunday. He told attendees at the Dhaka Reporters Unity that officials will publish verified newspaper circulation figures soon as part of efforts to reward legitimate outlets.
The ministry plans to complete ordinances protecting journalists’ rights and establishing private television regulations by November. Alam said authorities want to encourage ethical reporting while improving compensation for media workers.
His office is developing additional rules for online streaming platforms in coordination with the information technology ministry. The adviser said higher advertising payments will benefit organizations committed to fair wages and professional standards.
