GST cuts fuel record sales in Varanasi ahead of Diwali

With Diwali approaching, markets in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, are seeing record sales, fueled by the recent reduction in GST rates. Local showrooms are crowded, and sales managers are calling it the “Mahakumbh of buyers.” Customers are thrilled by the lower prices, with many seeing it as a Diwali bonus.

The GST 2.0 reform, launched on September 22, simplified India’s tax system, reducing tax slabs from four to two: 5% and 18%. This change has made goods, including vehicles, more affordable and boosted consumer spending. Traders in Varanasi report a significant increase in early Diwali purchases, marking one of the busiest festive seasons in years.
