India’s exports to US rise despite tariff hike
Despite a 50% tariff hike by the Trump administration, India’s exports to the US increased by 13.3%, reaching $45.82 billion in the first half of the current financial year. The Commerce Ministry also mentioned that India could import $12-$13 billion worth of crude oil and natural gas from the US without changing refinery setups, as part of efforts to diversify energy imports.
India’s Chief Negotiator, Rajesh Agrawal, is set to visit the US for ongoing trade discussions, although full negotiations are delayed due to the US government shutdown. The Commerce Ministry noted that despite global challenges, India’s exports to the US continue to grow, and further trade talks may focus on renewable energy technologies to address climate change.
