GZU grads urged to drive innovation, industrialisation
Innovation and industrialization for community transformation took center stage as President Emmerson Mnangagwa, in his role as Chancellor of Great Zimbabwe University, conferred degrees on more than 3,000 students at the Masvingo campus. Under the Second Republic, universities now serve as engines of national development through research and practical solutions.
Vice Chancellor Professor Rungano Zvobgo highlighted that the university has registered 13 intellectual property rights, including patents for a traditional grains dehuller, a roaster, and a mobile thresher. Other innovations include agricultural, mining, and security drones under the brand Zizi, and an urban traffic control system named Change Goal. These are under review by ZIPO and ARIPO, paving the way for commercial use.
Zvobgo urged graduates to drive change at the family, community, and national levels. He reminded them that their education is a national asset and called on them to become entrepreneurs, policy makers, and leaders who turn vision into reality.
