Hannah Yeoh awaits Court of Appeal decision on defamation case against Musa Hassan

The Court of Appeal has postponed its decision on Hannah Yeoh’s appeal against the High Court’s ruling, which dismissed her defamation suit against former police chief Tan Sri Musa Hassan. The decision was deferred after the judges heard arguments from both parties.

Hannah, who is the Minister of Youth and Sports, sued Musa over statements he made during a forum at Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) in 2020. She claimed Musa accused her of attempting to turn Malaysia into a Christian nation, among other things.

Her lawyer argued that the High Court erred by not recognizing the statements as defamatory. Musa’s lawyer argued that his client’s remarks were based on Hannah’s own book and academic studies. The Court of Appeal will review the case further on October 21.
