Haryana rocked by suicides of senior officers, Congress blames government failure

Congress MP Kumari Selja on Wednesday criticized the Haryana government following the alleged suicide of senior IPS officer Y. Puran Kumar and the recent death of an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) in Haryana. She called it the “biggest failure” of the state government, raising concerns about the administration’s trust in the government. Selja questioned why high-ranking officers were taking extreme actions and stated that the administration had lost faith in the government.

Puran Kumar, a 2001-batch IPS officer, died by suicide in Chandigarh last week, leaving behind a note accusing 15 officers of casteism and bias. The ASI, found dead shortly after, left a note accusing Kumar of corruption. Amid the controversy, Haryana’s DGP Shatrujeet Kapur was sent on leave, and Om Parkash Singh was given the additional charge of DGP. Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi also called for action against officers involved in caste-based discrimination against Kumar.
