IHEC reports 540 violations in Iraq election campaign

Iraq’s election commission documented 540 campaign violations ahead of parliamentary voting scheduled for Nov. 11, with 62 infractions occurring before the official period started. Commission representative Jumana Ghalai said candidates must remove all promotional materials within one month after polls close or face removal costs deducted from mandatory deposits. The commission barred 837 individuals from competing after final reviews.

Eligible voters total 21.4 million citizens as 7,768 candidates from 38 parties compete for legislative seats. The campaign window opened on Friday, Oct. 3, and closes on Saturday, Nov. 8, under commission rules. Women represent 2,248 of the total candidate pool while men account for 5,520 participants across 31 coalitions and 75 independent lists.
