India, Egypt strengthen ties at first strategic dialogue

External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar emphasized the strong commitment shared by India and Egypt towards the progress of the Global South during his opening remarks at the First India-Egypt Strategic Dialogue. He welcomed Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty to India, noting this was his first visit as Foreign Minister.

Jaishankar highlighted the growing bilateral ties since their partnership was elevated to a Strategic Partnership in 2023. He mentioned strong political coordination, increased defense and security exchanges, and promising trade and investment prospects. Discussions will also focus on areas such as digital infrastructure, fintech, pharma, space, startups, and green technologies.

The EAM also acknowledged Egypt’s support in evacuating Indian nationals in 2025 and thanked them for their solidarity following the Pahalgam terrorist attack. He appreciated Egypt’s role in the Gaza peace plan and reaffirmed India’s support for a two-state solution and its continued assistance to Palestine.
