Pakistan’s internal uprisings escalate despite US support
Pakistan, despite gaining renewed regional importance with US President Donald Trump’s support, is ignoring its growing internal issues, according to a report on Thursday. The region of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) has been in unrest due to human rights violations and neglect of local residents, with violent protests erupting over social, political, and economic concerns. The brutal response from Pakistan’s authorities has resulted in deaths, including among security forces.
Terrorist groups Lashkar-e-Tayyaba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) have moved their operations from PoK to Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, as they lost faith in Pakistan’s ability to protect them. The ongoing protests in PoK highlight grievances over Pakistan’s exploitation of local resources and the lack of representation in decision-making.
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has intensified its attacks in Balochistan, protesting the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and Gwadar port development, as locals feel their resources are being exploited. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, violence from the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and smaller groups continues, causing significant casualties.
Lt. Gen. Kamal Davar suggests India should adjust its Afghan strategy and strengthen ties with Afghanistan, Russia, Iran, and Central Asia to combat terrorism and boost regional cooperation. He also advocates for the development of Chabahar port to counter Pakistan’s influence in the region.
