India, Mauritius strengthen energy ties with floating solar project

India reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Mauritius’ development priorities with a visit to the site of a proposed 17.5 MW floating solar project at Tamarind Falls. The visit, led by India’s High Commissioner to Mauritius Anurag Srivastava and Mauritian Minister of Energy Patrick Gervais Assirvaden, highlights the ongoing energy partnership between the two nations. The project stems from Mauritian Prime Minister Navin Ramgoolam’s recent visit to India, emphasizing the shared focus on sustainable development.

During the visit, officials from Mauritius’ Ministry of Energy and Public Utilities and the Central Electricity Board accompanied Srivastava and Assirvaden. The High Commissioner also visited the 8 MW Solar Power Plant in Henrietta, established in 2023 with Indian assistance, contributing green energy to the Mauritian grid.

Mauritius PM Ramgoolam has praised India’s continuous support in various sectors, including energy, education, and healthcare. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also highlighted the importance of energy security in their partnership, with India providing 100 electric buses and extending support for the floating solar plant at Tamarind Falls.
