JN Money urges digital remittance use as storm nears

As Tropical Storm Melissa approaches Jamaica, JN Money is urging customers to prioritize safety when sending or receiving remittances. With the Meteorological Service issuing a Tropical Storm Warning and a Hurricane Watch, the company warns that agent locations may face higher traffic or temporary closures.

Horace Hines, general manager of JN Money Services, noted many families rely on remittances for essentials like food and emergency supplies. He advised using digital options to avoid crowds, including the JN Money Card, direct bank deposits, or online platforms offered by remitters. The card allows ATM withdrawals and point-of-sale purchases across Jamaica, reducing the need to visit physical outlets.

Customers who receive funds directly into their bank or credit union accounts can use ATMs or online banking. Senders overseas can transfer money through JN Money’s website or branches once authorized. Hines emphasized that digital access saves time, cuts costs, and enhances security during severe weather.

He also urged people to act early—withdraw necessary cash, complete urgent transactions, charge devices, secure documents, store water and food, clear drains, and identify safe indoor shelter. “Preparing early and staying vigilant can save lives,” Hines said, stressing that safety must come before all else.
