July martyrs’ families voice frustration in meeting with commission

Families of protesters killed in the July Movement told the National Consensus Commission on Sunday that government offices continue to disrespect them despite their children’s sacrifices. The relatives met with Commission Vice President Ali Riaz and other members at Parliament’s LD Hall to demand legal protections and implementation of the July National Charter.

Ten family representatives said barriers prevent them from receiving promised support or having their concerns addressed. They asked commission members to arrange a meeting with the chief adviser. The group included parents and relatives of martyrs Farhan Faiyaz, Mugdho, Yamin, Jabir Ibrahim, Shahriar, Riyan, Abdullah, and Abdul Hannan.

Commission officials admitted they knew about the July Foundation’s activities but underestimated the extent to which authorities mistreated bereaved families. Members promised to forward complaints to government departments and help organize the requested meeting with leadership.
