Kashphul fields enchant Dhaka with autumn’s beauty

In the Mirpur Beribadh area along the River Turag, the banks are graced by the gentle sway of kashphul (kans grass) as autumn draws to a close. The white blooms of kashphul, fluttering in the breeze, create a serene spectacle against the clear blue sky, captivating passers-by.

Kash fields can still be seen across the capital, from Uttara’s Diabari to Bashundhara Residential Area, where the feathery seeds drift through the air, enchanting onlookers. These fields, with their soft plumes swaying in the wind, provide moments of quiet joy for those fortunate enough to witness them.

Beyond their beauty, kashphul has practical uses. It’s a vital resource for marginal farmers, providing extra income during harvest season. Additionally, its straw is used in constructing betel leaf houses, and rural women often earn money making brooms from it. For many, the sight of kashphul swaying in the autumn breeze is an essential part of the season’s charm.
