Shocking video reveals police killing of student in Gazipur
A new video presented at the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has revealed the brutal killing of 20-year-old Md Ridoy by police in Gazipur Sadar upazila. The footage, shown on Monday during the final phase of arguments in the trial of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and two aides, depicts Ridoy being dragged by six policemen, beaten, and shot in the stomach by Constable Akram Hossain on August 5, 2024. Ridoy, a student and autorickshaw driver, was later dumped in the Kadda River, where his body has never been recovered.
The video played a crucial role in the ongoing trial, which involves crimes allegedly committed during the 2024 July uprising. Hossain is now in custody and has confessed to his involvement. The tribunal also presented further material, including an audio recording of Hasina instructing an official to shoot students during protests. The case involves former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and former police chief Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun as co-accused, with Hasina and Kamal being tried in absentia. The hearings are being broadcast live.
