US Embassy in Dhaka sees heightened security after threat alert

Security around the US Embassy in Dhaka was heightened on Monday night, October 13, following intelligence about a specific threat. Police deployed members of the SWAT unit and officers from the Gulshan Division to the area.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) confirmed the involvement of the Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit, including its bomb disposal team. The SWAT team, trained for high-risk operations, was also stationed at the embassy, equipped with heavy weapons and specialized gear.

Masud Alam, assistant commissioner of DMP’s Gulshan Division, stated that the increased security measures were implemented due to concerns over a potential security risk.
